The last kaiser, or emperor, of Germany, also king of Prussia from 1888 to the end of World War I in 1918. He is known for his militaristic manner and for his vacillating policies. He was born with a damaged left arm which could be a clue to understanding his behavior, including his parents influence. His motto was "If i rest, I rust." When Wilhelm II came to the throne he wanted sole power so he forced Otto Von Bismarck to resign in 1890. William continued Bismarck’s policy in maintaining the Triple Alliance with Austria and Italy. when the heir to the Austrian throne was murdered in Sarajevo, in 1914, Wilhelm determined to help Austria get staisfaction from Serbia, but he also didnt want to have Austria declare war on Serbia. William sent personal telegrams to Tsar Nicholas II in an effort to keep Russia from going to Serbia’s aid, but he failed. Germany was drawn into war. Wilhelm did not interfere when his generals took the conduct of war into their hands even though hes the German supreme general. He gave up his throne and moved to Doorn when Germany lost the war. During WW2, when he died, German dictator Adolf Hitler gave him a military funeral there.
